These thick fused glass salt/pepper dishes are fantastic for hot climates where salt always gets stuck in the shaker.
Alternatively, they also make a great ring dish(as customers tell me) for keeping your jewellery or earrings.
I have used hot desert colours of with some rich earthy tones that move together as they fuse in the furnace.
.
I have also sandblasted the surface to give it a dry look, like an ancient kind of firestone.
Some items may have a line from the diamond saw cut in them,I left these marks on some intentionally,to make it look like it was cut from a stone, which kind of is,in the way that I had to form a thick block of glass that had flowed with a small amount of movement. The block took a whole week to slowly cool down in the annealing process, from which these dishes were then cut.
A really neat addition to serving a meal, with an nice earthy salt dish.
I can see these in some hot desert states like Florida or Hawaii, places that are part of the desert.
I crafted these a few years back When I was in my Fitzroy crossing studio in northern Australia,it is one of the hottest driest places here,so I was representing in glass,a series of 'desert' style works.Reds through to pale yellows and some whites, represent to me,heat. The 'dry' appearance is all about the Australian desert,A place i have been to a few times in my working career with aboriginal people.
I made these extra thick too (8-10mm) so they are very durable.
