The Hudson River is the mighty waterway of the east that connects the coast to the heart of America via the Erie Canal. For centuries, river towns have used this route to transport goods down to New York City and upwards into the heartland. A treacherous river with many turns and shallows, navigation on the Hudson is aided by a group of Lighthouses that still shine today. Eight beacons (including the Statue of Liberty) are all that remain. One of them is still inhabited by a Keeper (the Saugerties Lighthouse)!

Thanks to the hard work of not-for-profit organizations and municipal and state parks services, these little lights shine on. Designated as national historic sites, and each boasting their own legendary tales—the Lighthouses of the Hudson River are treasures to preserve.

Illustrations have been made from historical images from the National Archives. Each lighthouse is named, with the date of commission in its current location.
