This listing includes a stainless steel and acrylic terrarium and FREE matching 35-inch metal chain - which we are happy to shorten upon request, simply message us during checkout. You may add your own items to the terrarium which is secured with a pin-style closure, in addition to the jump ring through the pendant top. The terrarium top is easy to open with a small tool - but also closes tightly, so you can add pearls in the future! Minimal assembly needed to close the jump ring with a pair of pliers, once the terrarium is filled. Both our acrylic and stainless steel are lightweight materials and designed for durability with good care. Always check item security before and during wear!

Please keep in mind, it is normal for flat acrylic to have minor surface scratches when held up to the light, and for dome-shaped acrylic to have a bit of a fishbowl effect. When worn and filled, they do not detract from the appearance of the jewelry. Acrylic is much more durable than glass, so we prefer this trade off to achieve the same beautiful look. Our solid metal pearl cages are also a great option - many are very open in design and allow you to see your pearls quite well without the acrylic.

Details on Opening your Terrarium:

Our terrariums are purposefully snug to keep your pearls secure. There's a bit of a wiggling technique to opening them, and we suggest using something like a really thin butter knife, metal nail file or even a razorblade (but be super careful!!). Just slide it in between the top ring where the two halves come together and twist gently back and forth a couple of times to loosen. Twist left to right, not up and down. The top will open first because the bottom is held in place with a pin (think clam shell). PLEASE do not use tools like pliers to pull at or force apart your terrarium!! You could bend or possibly break it - it is jewelry, after all :) Just use a little patience and don't be afraid to message us for help!

Details on Closing your Terrarium:

While acrylic is a wonderful choice for terrarium pendants and less delicate than glass, it is still fragile - BE CAREFUL TO NEVER PRESS ON THE ACRYLIC WHEN CLOSING YOUR TERRARIUM. Acrylic is heat sealed, as well as glued and tested before shipping to ensure it's securely in place upon receipt. The two sides of the terrarium are made to fit snugly together; one side is more of a "lid" that fits over the edges of the other side. To close, hold the side of the terrarium with the pin in the palm of your hand, loop the other side with the hole over the pin, ensure the pin is lined up and all the way inserted, then gently press the metal sides like a clam shell to close - bottom to top.

All terrariums are checked for a snug closure prior to being shipped. If you have any difficulty closing your terrarium, please note that they do require the pin and edges to be lined up just right and a gentle pressure on the outer metal to close. If your item does not seem to close, it may be overfilled, or alternately you may need to adjust the way the sides or pin are lined up before attempting to close it again. A little patience can be helpful when getting it adjusted - particularly on your first try - and remember not to press the acrylic :)

We cannot accept returns or exchanges on terrariums damaged during opening or closure, but please reach out to us with questions or for help repairing your terrarium should you dislodge the acrylic. We are willing to fix dislodged (but not broken) acrylic for FREE, if you are willing to pay all shipping & Etsy listing costs for us to return your item ($5.20 + your shipping cost to us).
