Use this simple crochet pattern to make a baby chick photo prop perfect for all spring babies! This unisex pattern includes instructions for both the cocoon and the baby chick hat.

This pattern is beginner friendly. The stitches/abbreviations used in this pattern include: ch, sl st, SC, HDC, DC, and DC2Tog. This project is recommended as a photo prop only. This is not in any way suggested for infant sleep. If you want to make the hat safe for the baby to wear unsupervised please crochet they eyes instead of using buttons.

This pattern requires approx. 136 yds. of a Category 5 Bulky yarn in white, approx. 40 yds. of a Category 5 Bulky yarn in yellow, and a small amount of Category 4 worsted weight yarn in orange for the beak. Loops and Threads Charisma is the bulky yarn pictured in the sample. You will also need a 5.0mm and 5.5mm crochet hook and 2 - 3/4" black buttons.
