In the era, society women (as well as the Hollywood elite) wanted very unique hats and Jack McConnell established himself as a top milliner in New York City who created one-of-a-kind originals. These original creations were marked with a red feather tucked under the McConnell label.
He was aptly named the "King of Millinery". The wool felt body covered in an array of carefully placed green and brown feathers with a sweeping feather tail.
The original silk tag which reads "Styled By Jack McConnell New York". There is the requisite red feather tucked behind the tag that signifies this is a one-of-a-kind hat.

Custom-made Jack McConnell hats like this one are difficult to find and, therefore, extremely collectible. Many of his early pieces are in museums across the country.

About Jack McConnell
Jack McConnell was from Mooresville Tennessee. At one time he was referred to as the “King of Millinery”. He designed hats for movie stars such as Joan Crawford and Lana Turner. It is said that a label with a red feather indicates the hat received the personal attention of Mr. McConnell. The Kathy Jeanne Hat Company of Fairfield New Jersey acquired the label in 2005, after Jack Mcconnell's death in 2005 and the label is now owned by Kathy Jeanne Inc.

Items are shipped within 1-2 business days of receiving payment.
All shipping via United States Postal Service (USPS) unless otherwise requested.
Parcels to some International Destinations can take from 6 days to 6 weeks to arrive.
International packages may be held up in customs for duties or tariffs, this seems to be a random selection determined by the destination country and is completely beyond my control.
International customers are responsible to their home countries for duties and tariffs.

Refunds and Exchanges
Being vintage, and therefore pre-loved, a certain amount of wear might be in evidence, and occasionally an amazing find might have a minor flaw that won't affect wearability. I will make you aware of any imperfections, and anything noticeable will include a photo. The item will be priced accordingly.
I take a lot of care to measure all the pieces accurately, please also see "additional information" for measuring and sizing info and vintage guidelines, to be sure your garment fits before you order as I do not accept returns for garments that don't fit. No refund, exchanges or cancellations on clearance.sale items.
Returns: We accept returns on most* items as long as you notify me within 2 days of receipt, return the item within 14 days of receipt in the same excellent condition. All returns are refunded for the purchase price only (shipping is not refunded).

MEASUREMENT GUIDELINES
SHOE SIZING:

The LENGTH measurement I give for shoes is always the measurement of the INSIDE sole of the shoe from tip of toe to very back of heel unless otherwise specified.

WIDTH refers to the widest INSIDE measurement at the ball of the foot

HAT MEASUREMENTS:
All hats are measured from the inside, around the hat band if there is one.
Try to measure around your own head where the hat depicted in shop sits on the mannequin's head to see if the hat will fit you in the same way.

21" = XS, or Size 6 5/8
21.5" to 21 3/4" = S, or Size 6 3/4 to 6 7/8
22" to 22 1/2" = M, or Size 7 to 7 1/8
22 3/4" to 23" = L, or Size 7 1/4 to 7 3/8
23 1/2" to 24" = XL, or Size 7 1/2 to 7 5/8

GARMENT MEASUREMENTS:,
LENGTH: Top of shoulder to hem, unless otherwise stated
BUST: Armpit to Armpit x 2 ( usually top of side seam at under-arm )
WAIST: Side seam to Side seam at the waist or an estimate x 2
HIP: Side seam to side seam at the hip at fullest point
SLEEVE: Shoulder seam to bottom of sleeve
BACK: from shoulder seam to shoulder seam
FRONT RISE: Pant front center waist to crouch seam
BACK RISE: Pant back center waist to crouch seam
INSEAM: Pant crouch inner seam to pant hem
HEM WIDTH: Pant hem inner seam to outer seam

It's important to remember that your garment won't be very comfortable, if it's measurements are your exact body measurements, (unless it's stretchy.)
The extra fabric required for comfort is called ease, and ideally you'll want the following amount for a vintage no-stretch garment for comfortable fit:

BUST: 1 1/2 "
WAIST: 1"
HIP: 2"


VINTAGE CONDITION GUIDELINES
Our designer clothing and unique vintage accessories are graded for their condition, using the following categories:
Mint / Perfect - The vintage piece is as perfect and pristine as the day it was originally sold, showing absolutely no signs of wear.
Near Perfect / Mint - The vintage piece shows only the slightest signs of being worn.
Excellent - The piece shows typical, although minor, signs of wear.

Very Good - The vintage piece is considered wearable but has some surface flaws i.e. staining, soiling or colour damage.

Poor - The item is wearable but shows significant signs of wear, although in many cases, some of these pieces can be restored. We do not offer such pieces.
