Yes, this is the one now worn by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez... I gave hers to her personally in Columbus Circle at the Women’s March Alliance Women’s March on NYC.
I put these flags together these because sometimes your queer street-cred comes from gender identity and sexual orientation too! Or maybe you're just a huge ally.
Back to our regular item description...
WHOAH!!! There's a transgender flag? Yep, it's the blue/pink/white/pink/blue flag, and it was designed in 1999 by Monica Helms of Atlanta, Georgia. She's a US Navy submarine service veteran and trans activist.
***Here's how I explain the transgender flag to people:
If the 6-stripe rainbow flag (and there was an 8-stripe rainbow flag with pink and turquoise, which evolved into the 6, but that's another story) were the UNITED STATES of QUEER flag, then you'd understand that lots of different identity labels have their own STATE flags, as the US States do.
Well, in this analogy, Transgender is kind of like Puerto Rico. It's definitely a small subset of the United States population, and while it is part of the United States in may respects, it's also it's also actually its own independent country too. It has its own advocacy needs, that are sometimes different than the mainland LGB community. Furthermore, like Puerto Rico, it's not too uncommon to feel like it gets a bit taken advantage of-that's a nice way to put it--by the mainland LGB community, almost as if it doesn't exist when it's inconvenient. Like when a big storm comes through, for example.
I hope you've learned a little about the trans flag. Now have your very own!***
Show and share your pride or allyship! Whether a subtle fashion accessory on your lapel, or for accessorizing nearly any article of clothing or luggage imaginable, this is a gorgeous silver-backed six-stripe rainbow to show your pride.
Bolder colors and silver backing help this go with anything.
Goes great alongside some of the other products you can find here at this store, including transgender pins, bisexual pins, etc...
Great for use as a pushpin or thumb tack as well on cork boards.
My personal favorite uses for this discrete yet bold statement piece is on lanyards for your work badge, conference credentials, or concert backstage passes.
Size: Pin is approximately 25mm (1”) at its widest, and a little over half as tall. The stud and the clasp extend backward approximately 10mm, a little under half an inch.
(Designed, sold, packaged, and shipped with LOVE by an actual transgender person, me!!! My amazing ally of a little sister helps sometimes too.)
Items may vary slightly by batch in coloration/backing/etc... from the exact images shown, but I'll try to keep the pics up to date. If more than one pin is shown in an image, they are either variations you can choose between (like silver or gold backing) or are other products on my page.
