I sometimes think that my optimism for most things can get in the way of how things REALLY are - and this is a solid case in point. You see, recycling is great and all, and I'd argue that reUSING is way more effective. Loads of plastics don't actually GET recycled due to contamination from food / the wrong 'number' plastic / the caps / etc. The point is, if you can look me in the face and tell me that the 40 plastic bags you DIDN'T use from the supermarket (because you brought your own bags) are really helping to offset the 10 billion tons of plastic used by any given corporation in a year THEN YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND!

Big business is messing things up in a BIG way. They are interested in profits, not people; money, not the environment. The best thing we could do to help prevent a quicker death to the sphere of life we are fucking up is to bankrupt a corporation. I don't know much about macro economics, but I know if you have zero money it's WAY harder to keep your machines running and polluting the world.
