This is a handmade sculpture, suitable for hanging on a wall.

The bird was created from light brown stoneware clay. A rich milk chocolate colored engobe was applied to the surface. The clay was allowed to dry to a leather hard state, then the surface of the bird was carved by hand through the engobe to create the decorative features on the body, wings, and tail. The sculpture was next allowed to fully dry at room temperature, then fired in a kiln to begin the process of hardening the clay. After the first firing, a glossy brown glaze was applied to the bird's head, tail, wing, and small areas of the body. The sculpture was then fired again to harden the glaze and further harden the clay and engobe.

It is ~11 inches long , ~6 inches tall, and ~ 3 1/2 inches thick.
