I designed this hat pattern for my friend when she was having her second child. The smaller hat has earflaps for the baby, but the larger one doesn't as the little girl is 2 1/2 and doesn't need them to keep her hat on.

Instead of reducing the number of stitches to make the two size hats, I changed the size of the needles. Each hat calls for 2 sizes of needles. The larger needle is used during the chart work, so there is no pulling. You don’t have to use the larger needle if you don’t find that problematic.

Just 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn make the two hats if you reverse the main color/contrast color.

One customer called it a dog hat and I think it does represent certain breeds of dogs as well as cats.
