About this item

This is a wooden spatula spoon. It's a combination of a spatula and a spoon. See bonus recipe below.
**This item will be made to order with a processing time of 1-2 weeks. It will most likely not arrive before Christmas****

It is 12 1/2 inches long and 2 1/2 inches wide. The front edge is slightly angled to the right (on right-handed versions, left on left-handed) and flattened. The bowl is medium-deep and has a curve, which I find makes the spoon more functional. Great for getting down to the bottom of the pot or stirring with, sauteing with, mixing with, scraping a bowl with, and serving. I like to make my designs as multi-functional as possible. One spoon to rule them all, so to speak. I'll be making a larger size soon because I love this design. This listing has Walnut, Cherry, Maple, and Curly Maple options. I make both a left- and right-handed version, so check to see if the wood species you want and the handedness you want are in stock. I don't have enough photos to show a left-handed version of each species. The left-handed version has a long point on the left-hand side of the bowl. If it is sold out, contact us, and we'll make some more within a couple of days. The one you receive will vary a little in grain and color from the pictures. Finished with beeswax and mineral oil.

These spoons are finished and ready to ship. The photos are examples and the one you receive will vary a little in grain and color.

Care is easy, just wash in hot soapy water and towel dry. Don't put it in the dishwasher. Try to wash it quickly or at least rinse it off so that sauce or food doesn't dry necessitating letting it soak for a long time to get it off. Treat with our spoon oil mixture every couple of weeks or some alternative. If you want to make your own, mix 3 parts by volume of mineral oil and 1 part beeswax in a double boiler. The ratio is not critical, so it's soft enough to wipe on easily. Rub it in and then wipe off any excess. It will go a long way to keeping your spoon in great shape. I've been using some of mine for 16 years now, and they only get more beautiful as the years go by and they develop a patina.

Happy cooking, everyone.

This utensil is "pre-washed," so to speak. The grain has been raised with water during the finishing process to remove any loose fiber ends, so the spoon will remain smooth after you use it. You can help this a lot by applying beeswax and mineral oil using a pad of 0000 steel wool every couple of weeks. The steel wool will remove any new loose fibers and keep the spoon as smooth as it is out of the box.

Care is easy: just wash in hot, soapy water, towel dry, and apply some mineral oil or walnut oil every couple of weeks, or you can buy some of our spoon oil finish, which is Beeswax and mineral oil. A 4 oz. jar lasts for a long time and it will help to keep your spoon looking and feeling good for many years. You can make your own by melting 1 part beeswax into 3 parts mineral oil in a double boiler. It should be the consistency of Chap-Stick when it cools.

My favorite salad: Baby Spinach with Apple Vinaigrette.

Baby spinach
Feta cheese
Crazins
candied nuts, Walnut, pecan, or cashews
Dressing: I make it fresh for every salad.
1/4 Granny Smith apple, chopped into small pieces
3 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar
3 tablespoons olive oil.
Blend with an immersion blender.

This roux spoon has great proportions, feels and looks high quality. And I know it will last - this is my second purchase from Kitchen Carvings, the first being salad servers in 2014 that my mother-in-law has used several times a week over the past decade, and they still look fantastic.
