Scottish Oat Bannocks: Hand-Crafted Biscuits with Currants or Blueberries (One Dozen)

Tender and only lightly sweet, Scottish Bannocks are perfect for breakfast, suppers, snacks, anytime! (Ask the Highlanders! They ate 'em all day!) Your order comes ready for you to re-warm in your own oven, or enjoy at room temperature, either way they're delicious. Bannocks are the traditional quick bread of Scotland, similar to Ireland's soda bread and England's scones, made with oats (a readily available grain in the Highlands) and often including currants or blueberries. They were historically fried in fat over a fire. My bannocks are placed in a sizzling iron skillet after shaping, for an authentic crispy bottom, then finished off in a hot oven.

This order is for one dozen traditional Scottish Bannocks made with the best soft southern baking flour, coarsely ground oats, fresh eggs, and milk from the farm, along with baking powder, salt, and sugar plus currants or blueberries if you choose those options.

Available plain (Old-Fashioned) or with Currants or Blueberries. (Pictured above with blueberries.) Freezes well. Each dozen weighs over one pound and serves 6 to 12 as an accompaniment to a meal.
