My inner free spirit has been enamored with vintage kantha blankets for some time now. It was just a matter of time before I took the leap into this new variety of poppies’ pillows: Boho!
The vintage saris used to make these blankets were worn through the streets and markets of east India, and like the women who wore them each has a history. Swatches and strips from these colorful saris were layered six high and then hand sewn together with kantha stitches. This time honored tradition has been passed on for centuries from mothers to daughters, who learned at an early age how to make the small, straight running stitches.
Although you can find lots of reproductions today, these are the real deal. They are time worn and super soft, and some even have funky patches to cover imperfections
When designing the pillows, it is extremely important to me that the creativity and ethic of the artisans as well as the traditions of this culture are honored. Each cover is 100% kantha – with each design I like to show the richness of colors the women chose, thus I’ve used the blanket fabric on both the front and back. All edges are serged to preserve this beautiful textile.
The cover is completed with an envelope style finish and fits an 12" x 16" pillow insert, not included*. Dry cleaning is recommended. To have a look at other Boho pillow covers, click here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/VintagePoppiesShop?section_id=14071978
