For this hat, you will need approximately 218 yards of bulky weight yarn. I would say this is an advanced beginner pattern. The only stitches used are knits and purls, but basic knowledge of knitting abbreviations is needed. Other Skills needed to complete this hat include: picking up stitches, knit, purl, basic shaping, and knitting in the round. If you need any more information on the materials needed, or gauge, please convo me before buying.

Wasn’t sure of the weight of the yarn to use, going by the needles I’m using some mega chunky yarn I had, it’s looking quite large. Would be helpful if the author would give size needles in millimetres and say if the yarn is chunky or super chunky.

The yarn weight is listed in the material section of the pattern. It says bulky weight, which is heavier than chunky, but lighter than super bulky weight. US size 11 needles are 8 mm and US size 13 needles are 9 mm.
