The custom of 'a silver sixpence for her shoe' appears to have originated in Celtic Scotland but my mother-in-law who lived to be 100, well remembered that when Ireland finally got their own set of beautiful minted coins the story soon changed to:

'Something Old
Something New
Something Borrowed
Something Blue
And an Irish Sixpence for Her Shoe'

And choose a meaningful year (perhaps a parents wedding or birthyear) for your Happy Event.
Then keep it to pass on to the next generation!

Coins available will vary slightly with the year, because they are old, and Irish.
But I clean, polish and seal them to the utmost sheen possible.

The Harp
The Harp features on the reverse of Irish coins to this day
1531 First introduced by Henry V111 declaring his "New Realm"
Banned at end of Medieval period because it had become a symbol of Irish Pride.
1700's Revived for it's music and symbolism.
1798 Wexford Insurgents depicted the Harp on their flags as they fought at Vinegar Hill.
1500 Ireland's oldest surviving Harp is on display in Trinity College, Dublin.
1862 Guinness Brewery adopted The Harp as the company Logo.
1922 New Free State adopted it (facing opposite way) as the Official Seal!
2009 Samuel Beckett Bridge opened in Dublin - design inspired by the Harp on an Irish Coin.
