Highlights
A lovely pair of antique shoes, dating 1800 - 1820 / Regency Era, by a prestigious maker. Hand made in slipper style, most likely part of a wedding ensemble, with ivory silk uppers, leather soles and kid leather inners. Straight soles and square toes, the shoes have minimal decoration, with only tiny bows on the fronts. For me, the best parts are the insides, one shoe still with its original paper label, reading ' J Petit de Paris - Ex(clusive) Agent de Melnotte - Chauss. pr. Dames - 124 Regent Street - Private Door - London ' (love the 'private door' part - exclusive! ) Also hand written in this shoe is '19' and, faded, 'Droit'. The other has no label but has hand written ' 19 ' ' Gauche ' ' M '. Shoes by this maker in various museum collections. Approx measurements 22.5 x 6 cm at the widest part.
CONDITION
The silk parts have split, especially around the heels, and the backs are flattened. The soles have some tiny holes and there are some small brown marks.
