Source music affects results. One test resulted in a peak 26 dB increase on Chris Stapleton’s “Sometimes I Cry”. Decibels are exponential. A 10 dB increase is 2 times as loud.

This started as a conversation with my wife on our couch. After some research on sound waves, cone shape, and compression I fabricated the first prototype and was amazed that it not only worked, but worked so well! Motivated by the amazing results I got to work designing three different models and the Joule line of concrete+wood passive phone amplifiers was born.

These passive amplifiers are all handmade by me. There were no CNC machines or 3D printers. These concrete+wood creations are all formed, cast, and finished by hand.

These were a lot of fun to make. I hope you enjoy them too.

Absolutely love this thing! It amplifies, but more so, it gives "body" to the sound vs the phone's speakers alone. Great for in the kitchen while doing dishes -- I just drop my phone into the slot and listen to whatever. Couldn't be more user friendly. Probably going to buy another for my brother at Xmas!

I’ve been listening to this speaker for a few days, and the sound is better than all of the wood passive speakers that I’ve tested.
