How are your handmade wooden gifts personalized?

Each piece I make is engraved/ wood-burned in the beautiful old Gaelic font 'Bunchló', widely used by our ancestors in Ireland until the mid 20th-century.

Is all of your work handmade?

Yes, everything I make is by hand, usually from native Irish hardwoods.

How are your Irish wedding goblets/ Celtic wedding chalices engraved?

These are engraved using laser engraver, which produces lovely crisp letters.

How do I go about getting a custom made wooden gift?

Simply contact me directly via email, phone, or Etsy. After we've made contact I will design what you have in mind and email you the concept. Once you are happy with the design details I will begin the making process. From there, you will be updated on the piece’s progress as it is made, and on completion.

How long does it take you to make an Irish wedding goblet?

Usually about 8 hours from start to finish, including the personalization and handmade packaging.

Where do you source your materials?

Most of my timber is from a very small local timber supplier where various woods are processed and seasoned. These woods are usually from Co. Galway or surround areas. It is always amazing seeing my material in its raw tree form, and uncovering unique grain details as I make a piece.

How big are your Wooden Maps of Ireland?

Our Wooden Maps of Ireland are usually 12" x 8" x 1", but we are always open to alternative requirements!

In 17th century Ireland when a man fell in love with a woman, he carved a traditional Irish wedding goblet for her. Crafted from an Irish Ash tree that lived in Co. Galway since c. 1945. Ash is the wood that these goblets, & our hurleys, have been traditionally made from for centuries.

I needed something original for a wedding present and Cian definitely fulfilled the brief. The goblet was beautiful, a little bigger than I expected which was a pleasant surprise but the quality of his workmanship is second to none. There was constant communication with Cian from confirmation of the order to dispatch, he was friendly and very approachable which made dealing with him very easy. I was worried about how I would travel with the goblet but it was so well packaged when I received it there were no worries there. The newly married couple love it, especially the little details about the history of the goblet and the type of wood etc. The little note from Cian wishing them well was also appreciated. I will be buying from Cian again, if we don’t continue to support our craftsmen they won’t be around in the future.
