Sculpture/Mixed media art using natural elements is a part of a series I'm currently working on title d"Ode to Wonder". This is one piece in the series and is titled "Essence of a Mountain." The entire work of art is centered around a piece of manzanita - restored piece of dead wood. The manzanita was collected legally and was in no way attached to a live shrub. The background mountain scene is made from sheet copper that was brazed and or patinated and then brazed. The rock is marble stone collected in the southern California desert and has a special nook on the branch, below is a secret cave, which is one half of a gourd and has a simple sand painting inside. The baseline cliff is made from red eucalyptus, and the interspersed smaller trees are manzanita with copper foil leaves. All parts make of a cohesive whole.
