At Vault Furniture, we take pride in meticulously designing and crafting our products in the USA. Every detail is taken into consideration in order to bring you the best product possible. All of our materials are hand-selected, locally sourced. Using the highest quality, American-made steel, premium solid wood, and commercial-grade finishes.
We hand fabricate each of our shelf brackets with locally sourced, American made 1.5" solid steel channel. This not only supports American manufacturing, it creates a better product. Unlike foreign steel, American steel is graded on a system to ensure high strength, consistency and low environmental impact.
After fabrication, the brackets are professionally powder coated to achieve the desired color. Powder coating is applied as dry powder through an electrostatic process, then cured with heat. Powder coating is well known for providing a high-quality, durable finish, that is aesthetically pleasing and much more environmentally friendly than it’s traditional paint counterpart.

WOOD OPTIONS:
-Ash: The 1" thick Ash is a light colored, smooth-grained hardwood that grows throughout North America. With its typical straight grain and beige-to-light-brown hue, ash wood is a very attractive option for a modern home. It is also one of the most durable varieties of lumber. It's lightweight and shock-resistant characteristics have made it a favorite for baseball bats, tool handles, and restaurant furniture. The Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus Planipennis or EAB) is an insect responsible for the destruction of tens of millions of ash trees throughout North America. We work with companies throughout the Pacific North West to ethically source Ash to ensure these trees do not go to waste.
-Black Walnut: The 1" thick Black Walnut is dark, hard, dense and tight-grained. It's prized for its strength, grain and color. It polishes to a very smooth finish, and the color ranges from creamy white in the sapwood to a dark chocolate in the heartwood. It’s the only dark wood native to North America, making it one of the most unique and valuable species in North America. We ethically source solid black walnut throughout the Pacific North West.
-Reclaimed Pine: The 1.5" thick old-growth pine is salvaged from demolition homes throughout the Midwest. The wood is full of cool characteristics, such as nail holes, plaster lines, and color variations. We cannot guarantee that the shelving you receive will look identical to the one in the product shot. Although, all surface imperfections are natural and tell a story that spans over a hundred years, making each piece unique and truly one of a kind. The raw and natural character of the reclaimed Pine is perfect for rustic or modern farmhouse styled homes. We offer two different options for finishing reclaimed pine: Natural and Surfaced Plane.
Natural Finish: We simply sand and finish. This produces a darker overall color and texture with a slightly uneven surface.
Surface planed: We skim off the top and bottom layer with a surface planer, making a more even surface and lighter color variation.
WOOD FINISH:
We finish all our wood with Agualente® PLUS Clear, which is a commercial-grade water borne coating pro-rated for interior wood surfaces. This finish has low VOC and it is GREENGUARD Certified, meaning it is non-toxic and produces no hazardous off-gassing during cure. This finish is resistant to yellowing and stains, making it ideal for household furniture.
BRACKET FINISH: POWDER COATING
After fabrication, the brackets are professionally powder coated to achieve the desired color. Powder coating is applied as dry powder through an electrostatic process, then cured with heat. Powder coating is well known for providing a high-quality, durable finish, that is aesthetically pleasing and much more environmentally friendly than it’s traditional paint counterpart.
BRACKET POWDER COAT FINISH COLORS:
• Clearcoat on steel
• Black
• *Gold/bronze
*GOLD Brackets have an ADDITIONAL FEE because the gold powder coating requires more coats of finish to achieve the proper results.
WEIGHT CAPACITY:
The solid steel shelf bracket mounts to the wall several locations, hidden behind each shelf. (For example, a 3 shelf bracket will mount to the wall in 3 locations) This displaces the weight evenly throughout the bracket, making for an extremely sturdy design.
We recommend placing a bracket every 16"-30" of shelf distance. The number of brackets you use for your project will depend on the overall length of the shelves and the amount of weight you'd like them to bear (more brackets = higher weight capacity) For heavy duty shelving, such as a fully loaded bookshelf, we recommend placing brackets 24" apart or less. When spaced ≤ 24", the brackets can support 100lb per linear foot of shelving.*
If you need help figuring out how many brackets are necessary for your project, please contact us and we will make a recommendation with a custom rendering for you.
The shelves attach to the brackets in 2 locations on each shelf rung. We DO provide wood screws to attach the wood shelves to the brackets.
*How the brackets are mounted to the wall directly impacts the load capacity. Different wall constructions require different kinds of mounting anchors. For this reason, we DO NOT include wall mounting anchors, only the screws that attach the shelves to the brackets. We do however provide detailed outline of our recommend wall anchors for the different constructions within the installation manual. Please message us if you would like to see the installation manual prior to ordering or if you have any other questions. We have installed this shelving hundreds of times on just about every kind of construction and would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
AMERICAN STEEL VS. CHINESE: "American steel manufacturers are held to a set of standards created by organizations like The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) that determine the appropriate chemistry mixes for different types of steel. These standards are intended as a safety precaution to ensure the right quality of the metal is being used for the right product. Companies in China are producing steel at a faster rate, flooding the market and dropping prices. It is produced at a rapid rate and it is not held up to the same quality standards as American steel. American steel requires some rigorous testing before it can be sold, but Chinese companies are not required to conduct these tests. These tests help keep buildings standing after a hurricane or earthquake and help prevent the steel from becoming brittle and beginning to crack when it is being welded. In addition to testing, American companies are under more strict guidelines for the environment. Carbon emissions in China are two times greater than they are in America for the same amount of steel. Steelmakers in America spend 80 percent more per ton of steel to reduce the pollution levels to both air and water than a steelmaker in China." -gensteel.com
OLD GROWTH PINE HISTORY:
Made from solid old-growth pine, the foundation beams are salvaged from demolition homes throughout St. Louis and Chicago. These beams are over 100 years old and have tons of character and even more history to them. The term "old growth" refers to the origins of the tree that the beam was produced from. These trees grew naturally for over 200 years, during a time before massive deforestation. Since they grew in a dense forest, they received less light and grew more slowly than newer lumber. This slower growth allowed for a tighter ring pattern and denser wood. An estimated 90% of these forests were cleared in the United States by the early 20th century. Today, "old growth" is strictly available through architectural salvage since remaining trees are protected by the US Forest Service.
RECLAIMED PINE DISCLAIMER: There WILL be imperfections. Rustic and reclaimed furniture embraces the beauty of the natural and celebrates its flaws. This is solid wood furniture that exudes warmth with an organic character that gives off a relaxing vibe as it provides a connection to the past. If smooth, shiny and seamless are what you’re after, then rustic and reclaimed may not be for you.
We cannot guarantee that the wood you receive will look identical to the product shot. All surface imperfections are natural and tell a story that spans over a hundred years, making each piece unique and truly one of a kind.
Unique characteristics include but are not limited to:
- Nail Holes
- Worm/Insect Holes
- Uneven Edges
- Saw Marks
- Beautiful color variation from light tan to black
- Hand-notched holes from where the floor joists slid in
- Paint remnants
- Plaster Wall lines
