Crepe ginger can grow 8-10 feet tall and wide, and flowers start forming on the tip of each cane by early summer (3rd photo). Even after a hard freeze, new growth quickly comes into bloom. The stems form a spiral pattern as they grow (4th photo). When the canes reach their mature height, a reddish cluster of bracts forms on the tip.

The buds open into a large, white, tissue-paper-like flower over 3 inches in diameter. Flowers open singly or a few at a time through the summer. The flower is the reason this is sometimes called the Crepe Ginger.

The cone-like bract formation can reach 8 inches in length (2nd photo).
The plant will grow in either sun or shade, but looks its best where it gets at least a little shade during the hottest part of the day in tropical regions. This is supposed to be the most cold-hardy among the spiral gingers and is recommended for USDA Zones 7-12.

You have the option of buying rhizomes or keikis. Make your selection from the drop-down menu under "Type & Quantity".
The rhizome sections have the leaves removed (similar to the 5th photo). These will reach flowering size sooner than keikis.
The keikis/plantlets are leafy side sprouts off the flowering stems (similar to the last photo). These should be treated like cuttings when planted.

Keikis were well packed, turgid, and looked healthy. This was my first time with both this species (& its entire spiral-ginger family, frankly) and with keikis, so I speak from ignorance, but I was expecting roots (orchid keikis have dangling roots, though admittedly epiphytic orchid roots are protected by velamen, which I wouldn't expect here) rather than just bumps. Not sure how well the 2 left in my work greenhouse (in wet vermiculite + rooting hormone, covering by the plastic bag these shipped in, placed in the shade) will survive the weekend. Taking one home to place in potting mix and Be Watched.
