Bronze wasps hover around nuggets of raw apatite. The golden wasps strike an elegant, menacing silhouette.

THE DETAILS
From the tops of the ear wires to the bottom of the stinger, these earrings measure about 1.5" (38 mm). From the tips of the wings to the head, they measure approximately 7/8" (22 mm). These earrings are slightly larger than life-size.

The ear wires are 20 gauge (the standard weight) and made of 14k gold-filled wire to prevent irritation to your skin.

THE PROCESS
These earrings are hand-carved in wax and cast in solid bronze using the lost wax process. As with all my pieces, these earrings are cast in small batches with a local business. Pieces are soldered by me and finished by hand in my studio. Each piece receives a great deal of care and attention to craft.

THE MATERIALS
All Ibis Elements pieces are cast in a lustrous, high-quality bronze. With time, these metals develop a subtle patina that deepens the character and charm of a piece. Please be aware that some people’s skin takes on a slight greenish cast when in prolonged contact with bronze or brass. This issue arises primarily with rings. Any green marks disappear easily with soap and water. All earrings use gold-filled wire to prevent irritation.
