Are the Candle Making Kits Difficult?

In a word, no. Our best selling taper candle kits and birthday candle kits are particularly easy to make and we've had customers use them as crafts for children as young as 5. And, of course, our adult customers enjoy making them as well. The pillar making kits are a tiny bit more involved, but still easy enough for most anyone to do. All of our kits come with simple to follow directions and we are just an Etsy message away should you need any additional help; our reply time is typically well under 24 hours. Candle burning, like candle making, is a bit of an art, and your candles will burn best if you follow the following tips. But of course it's your candle, so do what you want. Trim your wick to approximately 1/4 inch after each use. Candles burn best in a draft-free environment. Burn your candle long enough to create a wax pool the width of, or nearly the width of your candle's container to ensure maximum candle life. This is especially important for the initial burn. Short burns will result in tunneling. When possible, snuff your candle flame by quickly dipping the wick into the surrounding wax pool, ensuring the wick pops back out.

Many items in our shop ship for a $4.25 flat fee within the US, though if you purchase $35 worth of candle goodies, your order will ship for free. We do ship internationally; Contact us if your country is not listed. We ship quick as customer service is important to us. Expect your candle to be in the mail within 24 hours of purchase (excluding weekends and USPS holidays). We use USPS Ground Advantage for most orders. Shipping can be upgraded to Rush + Priority mail for an additional fee when requested - contact us for details. Small wicking orders ship via USPS Flats.

Environmental Friendly Packaging

With both of our shops (you can find us @EmpireSquid Organics as well), we strive to minimize our environmental impact as much as possible. We use cardboard boxes, cardboard mailers, and cardboard wrapping - much of it from recycled material. Our packing peanuts are made from vegetable starch and can be composted or simply dissolved away with water. Any plastic bags we use are simply bags we are reusing that came to us as packaging from one of our product material suppliers. We reuse as much of the packaging material we receive as possible.

We accept returns for completely unused items received in the original new condition they were shipped in. Once a mold or other item has been used, we cannot issue a refund for it. Do note that we may issue the return less the value of the original shipping charge we paid to ship the item to you. The actual shipping charge we paid will be higher than the original shipping charge, if any, for the item.

Your kit will ship in our hand stamped cardboard box (with stamps made by a fellow Etsian) and will include either twelve or twenty-four 5.5" x 8" black beeswax sheets and enough untreated square braid cotton wicking to make wicks for each candle, along with a simple set of directions. And if you have any questions at all about making your candles you can simply contact us through Etsy and we will respond within 24 hours (and usually a lot sooner than that).

Do note that multiple quantity orders will be combined into a single box.

Only half the sheets were black; the other half were purple. I kept them, because they were still pretty, and all the sheets arrived quickly and intact, but not exactly what I ordered. Update: The seller immediately contacted me with an apology and an offer to make things right, even though I had not filed a complaint or left a bad review (it was 4 stars before this update). Excellent customer service.
