Waxed canvas cannot be put in a washing machine or dryer. Waxed canvas can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap. If the bag needs to be thoroughly cleaned, it may need to be re-waxed afterwards. This should be done with a can of Martexin brand wax, and is easy to do yourself. Our leather items do not need any conditioning upon purchase. If they ever become dry, Lexol brand leather conditioner is recommended. Avoid neatsfoot oil conditioner on our wallets, as it can cause the natural linen thread to decay over time. If leather becomes wet, simply allow to dry on its own. Do not place near dryer or heat source.

What type of leather do you use?

I currently source my leather from two different tanneries. One is Horween of Chicago, IL. They have been producing beautiful, hard wearing leather since 1905. The other tannery I source from is Wickett and Craig of Pennsylvania. They produce traditional vegetable tanned leather. This type of leather is often used for horse tack and strap goods, due to its incredible strength and durability.

What is the benefit of waxed canvas?

The process of waxing canvas makes it stronger, more water resistant, and more abrasion resistant. Waxed canvas also develops character as it ages, similar to leather. The waxed canvas I use is Martexin brand. Located in New Jersey, they have been producing some of the highest quality waxed canvas in the world since 1905.
