Locating & Downloading Files

A variety of file sizes are available for download after checkout (wait for a small link to go to your downloads to come up on the next page after checkout). Etsy also emails a download link after purchase. If you have an Etsy account, you don't need the emailed link as your files are always available to download in the "Purchases" section of your account when you are signed in to Etsy on a laptop or tablet. Note that the Etsy app does not support downloads. To download to a phone, sign in to Etsy through a browser on your phone. Recently, customers checking out using Apple Pay with the private email setting have difficulty locating downloads as they will not be in their accounts. If possible, please avoid the private email setting.

Photo printers or high quality color printers work best. However, I tested prints on a variety of consumer document printers and found one of the inexpensive printers did a decent job and a higher priced document printer did not. Some home document printers will print vertical lines on your image or more subtle squares or rectangles (and there is nothing you can do about it other than try a different printer). These vertical lines and squares are not part of the original images, so please test print on lower quality paper first.

Always check the image in print preview and it’s also a good idea to test print a fast draft in black and white to make sure there are no margin settings that might be off. Make sure none of the printer ink - color or black - is low. IMPORTANT TIP: In Print Setup, make sure “print actual size” or “print at 100%” are checked and “fit to page” is unchecked.

SET PAPER SIZE - If your printer prints a variety of paper sizes, make sure you set it up for your desired paper size. In most cases, you will print on 8.5” x 11” paper and use a ruler and craft knife to trim the picture to size. An image file with trim guidelines (a thin gray line around the image) will be included for images with white borders and images with floating shapes, like a circular image, or on a white background. Images without borders or a white background should be trimmed to the edge of the printed image. If you have and 8” x 10” (inch) image and have 8” x 10” photo or fine art paper (not the norm), you will also need to go to page setup (or it will be called something similar) and set the paper or document size.

SET IMAGE SIZE - Even though your paper is 8 .5” X 11” on many printers you will still need to select the image size from given options. If the image is 8” X 10” and you wish to print larger or smaller, choose an option within the appropriate aspect ratio (aspect ratios are in the image titles and explained further down in the facts). Please note that image quality can be compromised if blown up too big, so preview the image in the larger size first.

IMPORTANT TIP: Under Print Setup or Printer Properties, change the paper type in the drop down menu to match (or closely match) the paper you are using and change the print quality settings to the highest quality available. If the paper type is not reset, you could have paper feed problems. If print quality is not reset to the highest quality, you will not be printing the best version of the image.

Heavyweight matte photo paper, fine art paper, ultra premium presentation paper (matte) or a good quality heavy white premium card stock is recommended. Glossy papers and glossy or lightweight photo papers (the kind used for snapshots) are not recommended. Some very heavyweight papers will not work in home printers. Ultra Premium Matte Paper from Epson works well for me (though what I tried was a bit creamy, not bright white) as well as the Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper Textured Matte, again not a bright white, both purchased on Amazon. I haven’t tried it, but many people like the heavyweight matte photo paper from Staples.

Sending Your Art Out to be Printed

Take your image file to a local printer (not a photo lab) or use an online printing service. Photo labs like the ones at grocery, discount or drugstores are not recommended as the quality of the image and colors are likely to come out badly. Google “art printing services” in your area to find local printers, or Google, “printing services” and call local printers and ask if they can print digital art on quality matte paper. You can also Google “online printers art photos posters.” A few recent results – PosterJack (fine art prints), Snapfish and Shutterfly. Choose a heavyweight matte white paper (sometimes it will be called fine art paper) and always check online for discount codes. Remember, glossy papers are not recommended.

Michelle is amazing! I can't imagine the time and effort it takes to run an Etsy store of this size. But she does it very sucessfully. Her customer service is the best I've seen, communication was instantenous. The prints themselves are everything I had hoped for. So far I've managed to frame and display only three of them but the rest are going up on the walls ASAP. I definitely recommend this store. You've got a customer for life.
