All Nimble NiteCap seeds are packed in eco-friendly, compostable seed packets. Each packet is printed and designed in-house using vegetable-based inks on biodegradable, recycled materials. For very small seeds, extra protection may be used.

Are your seeds organic, heirloom, non-GMO and grown in the United States?

Yes! Every seed variety is heirloom or open-pollinated, organic, untreated, and non-GMO. I proudly support sustainable agriculture and have taken the Safe Seed Pledge — promising never to buy, sell, or distribute genetically engineered seeds. Yes. All Nimble NiteCap seeds are grown, cleaned, and packed in the U.S.

What’s the difference between heirloom and open-pollinated seeds?

All heirlooms are open-pollinated, but not all open-pollinated varieties are old enough to be called heirlooms. Heirlooms are varieties that have been passed down for generations, often 50 years or more, for their flavor, reliability, and history. Open-pollinated seeds produce true-to-type plants, so you can save your own seed year after year.

When will my order ship and how long will it take to receive my order?

Orders are carefully packed and shipped via USPS First Class (or Priority, if selected) in padded, eco-friendly mailers or recycled boxes. Most orders ship the next business day, though processing time may be slightly longer during peak planting season. USPS First Class Mail typically arrives within 3–7 business days within the U.S. You’ll receive a tracking number once your order ships. Shipping times can vary seasonally or due to carrier delays beyond our control.

What if my seeds don’t germinate?

I regularly test my seed lots to make sure they meet excellent germination standards. However, germination can be affected by temperature, moisture, and soil conditions. If you have any issues, please reach out — I’ll help you troubleshoot or replace packets that clearly don’t meet quality expectations.

Do you include growing instructions and how should I store my seeds?

Yes! Every Nimble NiteCap packet includes clear, easy-to-follow growing instructions for that variety. You can also find more detailed growing information right in each Etsy listing and on my website, where I go deeper into sowing, harvesting, and seed saving tips. Keep seeds in a cool, dry, and dark place — a sealed container in a closet or drawer is perfect. Avoid humidity, which can shorten their life. When stored properly, most seeds remain viable for several years, though herbs and alliums have a naturally shorter shelf life.

Can I plant your seeds in my region or climate?

Most of my varieties grow well across a wide range of U.S. zones. Each product listing includes USDA zone guidance and climate notes. If you’re not sure whether a variety will do well where you live, feel free to message me with your ZIP code — I’m happy to help you choose plants that will thrive in your area.

What if USPS says my package was delivered but I haven’t received it?

If tracking shows your order as “Delivered” but it’s not in your mailbox, please check with household members, neighbors, or your local post office — sometimes packages are scanned early. If it still doesn’t turn up, contact me and I’ll help initiate a missing mail investigation with USPS.

A lovely bi-color, terrific for cut flowers! Picotee has a golden center flanked by pure white petals edged with magenta pink and rose. Each flower is unique, with varied shades. Once established, cosmos are drought tolerant; neglect is the kind of care they prefer. They reseed readily, making them ideal for wildflower or naturalized areas. Deer resistant.

Because of their Mexican heritage, these bright annuals meet high heat and drought conditions with native beauty and vigor. Spanish conquistadors searching for gold discovered these flowers on their journeys through Mexico. Mission gardens often included these flowers, which priests gave the name “cosmos,” the Greek word for a harmonious whole, because of their neatly spaced petals. Cosmos flowers made their way to England with Spanish ambassadors in the late 18th century, and to the United States in the following century.

~ harvesting ~

Cosmos blossoms make lovely, long lasting cut flowers. Cut long stems of blossoms that have just opened, and remove any foliage that will fall below the water level. These flowers usually have a vase life of 7-10 days. Cosmos blossoms also make attractive dried flowers.
