The Secret Order of the Narwhal Society brooch is a part of my ongoing Canadiana series, and is especially important to me as Narwhals are only found in the arctic waters of Canada and Greenland.

The myth of the Narwhal has been the stuff of Inuit legend, they believed that the narwhal's tusk was created when a woman with a harpoon rope tied around her waist was dragged into the ocean after the harpoon had struck a large narwhal. She was transformed into a narwhal herself, and her hair, which she was wearing in a twisted knot, became the characteristic spiral narwhal tusk.

Beautiful design and beautifully made. It shipped quickly. The only slightly disappointing thing about it was the packaging. Whenever I've purchased jewelry on Etsy in the past the jewelry is usually mounted to personalized packaging with the shop name and nice paper. This arrived attached to a folded piece of recipe paper, functional but not pretty. Since this was a gift and I wanted it to feel special I went to the paper store and bought some supplies to attach the brooch to so that it was special enough to present as a gift. Obviously you are purchasing the brooch not packaging and the brooch is beautiful.
