Here is a set of three illustrated children's school books for re-purposing or art projects and re-use with great covers for new notebooks or vintage home decor display.
- "Your're Growing Up": this book is especially awesome because some old owner has added to its many illustrations with little thought bubbles saying things like " Let's go before we get shot with x-rays", and general writing like "As I was saying I want to tell you something page 300". There are moustaches drawn on people. All of the kid's markings are done in pecil and there are more illustrations in the book that don't have markups than do. But they are hilarious: inside the front cover is written: "In case of a flood stand on this book its dry!" Both the front and inside cover are marked "Brain Posion" so we can tell what sort of student this scribbler was! The book was part of a Canadian Health and Personal Development Program and published in I'm guessing from the fashion late 1940s to early or mid 50s. There are 3 different illustrators and tons of images both in color and b&w of children and teens and stuff to do with health: anatomy, biology, activities, etc... really great body/internal stuff! There are 2 pages where something has been cut out, 320 pages in all. Classic stuff.
- "What Katy Did" by Susan Coolidge. A strikingly red book. Part of Britain's Foulsham's Boy and Girl Fiction Library series. No date but 1950s. There is a list of some illustration plates but they have been removes although there are no tears. Random read: page 61:
"Do you see them often?"
"Almost every day. And little Helen comes every day, you know, for her lessons."
"Is she as pretty as she used to be?"
"Oh yes - prettier, I think. She is a lovely little creature. Having her so much with me is one of my greatest treats". 126 pages.
- "Junior Language" with a wonderful illustrated cover of kids in Medieval costume against a lovely burnt umber. Printed in Toronto in 1942. Used as a text in schoolrooms. Awesome black and white line reliant illustrations, full page (x4) and smaller scattered throughout (see photo). A few pages creased up in corner. Some illustrations contain some wonderful signs of the time like an old-fashioned radio. Some markings like checkmarks or underlined words, no fussing with the images though. 213 pages.
