This is an original watercolor painting that I completed in February 2019 on 140 lb cotton rag watercolor paper. I created this painting from a photo I took while my husband and I were hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Many of the trails we hike on are part of the Appalachian trail, and this was one of them. This painting would make a perfect gift for any hiker, especially those who have hiked or dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail! The painting measures 7 1/2 x 10 inches (19 x 25.5 cm).

You can see the actual creation of this painting, from beginning to end, in a time-lapse video on my YouTube channel. Pretty cool, huh? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBBiXh4Avmc&t=76s

Artist's Statement and Bio:

I create art because I am compelled to do so. The feeling I get from creating something that pleases my senses—and hopefully the senses of others—has held me in its grasp as long as I can remember. When I see something that captivates my eyes, I immediately start thinking about how to translate it into a drawing or painting.

My ultimate goal in any work of art is to create an image that communicates what I saw in the scene that made it worth painting. We could all look in the same place, and we would all see something different; I believe that it is my job to show the viewer my unique point of view. To this end, I strive to focus more on why to paint the painting than how to paint the painting. By planning my paintings with this principle in mind, I believe that I am closer to sharing feeling and a moment—not just a picture.

I have been working as a professional artist for over 13 years and have been practicing drawing and painting my whole life. I am a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, where I currently live and maintain a studio. I also teach watercolors to students of all levels and love to share my deep passion for the medium with others.

I am incredibly honored to have sold paintings to collectors from around the world and to have received numerous prestigious awards for my work. Most notably, I achieved Signature Membership in the American Watercolor Society in January 2021, which is earned by receiving juried acceptance into 3 separate AWS International Juried exhibitions and is meant to be an indication of the painter having established a consistent style and to have demonstrated considerable skill in the medium. I am also a Signature Member of the Southern Watercolor Society, Watercolor Society of North Carolina, and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society.

Beautiful prints! We like to change our decor with the seasons, so these have the perfect place on our bookshelf all year long!

Love this print! The colors are rich, and it's exactly what I was looking for. It was a little bigger than the 10x14 size I ordered (with the border and all), but I couldn't bring myself to trim it, so I just bought a bigger frame.

I have ordered Laura's notecards for several occasions. I always appreciate the fine quality paper she uses for her cards. I look forward to receiving them from Etsy and I am proud to send them for anniversaries, birthdays, condolence messages, thank you cards, and congratulation messages all year long. I never let my stock of her notecards get low so I always have a card of which I am proud to send on any occasion. Thank you, Laura, for your hard work in sending new packages of notecards almost the day after I order them. Linda Chatterton in Denver,CO.

I bought the 5x7 prints and framed them in a tin frame. Being an Ohio girl, I love barns and the four seasons. (Yes, even winter!) Laura's watercolors were just what I was looking for. They are minimalistic, but have loads of character.
