This mug would make a great gift for the coffee or hot tea drinker in your life.

I made this mug on the potter's wheel in my Kansas studio. I decorated the surface using the Sgraffito tecnique combined with the addition of velvet underlgazes. Sgraffito is the process of applying layers of contrasting slip to unfired pottery, and then scratching to reveal parts of the underlying clay. In this case I applied 4 to 6 coats of black slip on white clay. I painted on a sunflower design using velvet underglazes. After the mug has been fired once, I will glaze the top edge and interior of your mug in glaze color of your choice and cover the lower part of the mug with a shiny clear glaze. I then fired the mug in oxidation to about 2100 degrees Fahrenheit. I paint gold luster around the flower petals and fired the mug for a third time.

This mug will hold 18 to 20 oz. of your favorite beverage. It will be approximately 4.25 inches (10.2 cm) tall and 4.25 inches (11.43 cm) in diameter.

Hand wash to preserve the luster. Do not microwave.
