Turritella Agate may display warm brown and tan tones with fossilized shell inclusions, creating intricate natural patterns that reflect its ancient origins. The sizes are measured in length. These are natural, fossiliferous stones and are lightly tumbled, so they may retain some natural crevices, pits, and texture. These stones may vary in size, shape, width, thickness, color, and pattern. Each piece contains fossilized shell inclusions that will differ from stone to stone. You may not receive the exact stone pictured, but I will intuitively choose the best available specimen for you at the time of your order.

Turritella Agate is a brown, translucent fossil agate found primarily in the Green River Formation of Wyoming, USA. It is easily recognized by the presence of fossilized freshwater snails embedded within the stone, appearing in shades of white to tan against a darker brown agate background. Although historically referred to as “Turritella,” the fossils are actually from the freshwater snail Elimia tenera, a member of the Pleuroceridae family. This unique combination of chalcedony (a form of quartz) and fossilized organic material gives the stone both geological and historical significance. It has a Mohs hardness of approximately 6.5 to 7, making it a durable stone suitable for everyday handling.
