Question: I keep seeing the words "stratification" or "scarification" being used when I'm shopping online for seeds. What does that mean?

These are garden nerd terms for simple things. Stratification means simulating what seeds would experience in their natural environment. For instance, some seeds need a chill (winter conditions) before they can sprout. You can often solve this either by sowing in the Fall/Winter, refrigeration, and/or moisture prior to planting. The time varies for seed type. Keep in mind your hardiness zone when ordering seeds as some flower seeds may not work in your climate. Scarification is a stratification method of nicking or giving a hot water treatment to the seed before planting. Sometimes special techniques are unneeded, but if the seeds you order require a special process there will be full instructions on the product page.

Question: Do you sell things invasive to my state/region?

Not sure, but you can find out by looking up noxious or invasive plants in your county/region/state. Question: What if I don't plant the seeds right away? Will they go bad? And I read that I can test seeds by putting them in water and if the seeds float they're no longer any good. Is this true?

You can keep seeds in a cool dark place. Probably the easiest place is a refrigerator. As far as seeds going bad, seed types differ in how well they keep but most can actually last for a couple of years. And nope. Doing the seed sink test might work for some seeds like melons, but only if they haven't been thoroughly dried. Not to worry about the seeds sold in this shop. They are tested for germination and the seeds are no older than the prior summer's harvest.

Question: Are all the seeds/plants you sell safe for pets and kids?

Many are safe but not all. If the plant type is known to be harmful there will be a disclaimer on the product page and in the instructions shipped with the item. It is, however, a good idea to look up information on any plant you're thinking of having around kids & pets.

Question: I watched a youtube video where a guy suggested germinating seeds faster by soaking them in soy sauce, fertilizing plants with bacon grease, and keeping garden pests away by spreading tinfoil around the plant and covering it with vaseline and banana peels. Do those things work?

No...those are ridiculously bad ideas. That guy sounds like a disaster.

This seed packet is mostly "Sensation" but also a mix of Sulphur, Picotee, Purity, Dazzler, Gloria, Pinkie, varieties. All seeds are hand gathered and so the packet may have little bits of dried flower parts. there are well over 100 seeds in each packet.
Growing Cosmos is easy. These are prolific bloomers and an excellent addition to just about any garden.
