The bond between mother and child is forged at birth. In this sweet 9 ¾” x 7 ¾” mug rug, a mother giraffe nuzzles her newborn calf under an acacia tree. Batik fabrics were used for the giraffes, and an ombre fabric created the background.

The mug rug is quick and easy to stitch up with fusible web applique. A bit of machine zigzag stitching holds the appliques in place. Grass can be added with free motion stitching if you choose. Colorful and fun, this is a perfect little handmade gift. It could be a treasured Mother's Day surprise. It fits nicely on any desk or coffee table.

The pattern contains detailed instructions with photos, and full size templates and layout plan.

Using Heat and Bond and appliqueing with a narrow satin stitch, the pattern was great. The proportions of the giraffes are real and not cartoony. I like how mine turned out.
