This handsome version of our walnut bed has skinny tapered legs like the Goldilocks bed and a curved headboard with a curly cherry ribbon stripe (also available with other woods for the stripe) The bed pieces are finely sanded and the edges are rounded over to make them feel nice and smooth.

CUSTOM NOTE: The bed is being made just for you, and hopefully you will have it for a very long time, so why not take the time to think through its measurements? Once we know your mattress thickness, we will reach out to verify the specs for your bed and may offer some suggestions to make it work better for you. Looking at our listing pics, you may see that some appear to have more or less space beneath the bed and/or a larger or smaller gap on the headboard - these tweaks are possible if they make the bed work better for your needs. Ideally we want the sit height (top of mattress to the floor) to be comfortable for the bed's occupants, for the space beneath to be 5" - 13" (where the tapered legs look good,) and for the top of the mattress to overlap the bottom 1" - 3" of the headboard - with some consideration for future mattresses being a different thickness. WALNUT AND CURLY CHERRY HARDWOODS
The color you see is not a stain; it is the natural color of these beautiful hardwoods. Black walnut is the darkest wood we offer, and can range from a medium brown to a dark rich brown. When making our headboards from two pieces of wood, we work very hard to match the color and grain so it appears seamless. Cherry is a beautiful warm reddish toned hardwood which becomes a richer, darker red with age and exposure to light. The "curly" part means it has a repeated pattern of highlights that give a 3D appearance to the wood. It's truly stunning in person. Because wood is a natural product, its beauty marks are normal, and may include knots, knot holes, worm holes, large streaks or sections of light or blond sapwood and/or variations in grain and color. Our bed frames are handcrafted from furniture-grade kiln-dried solid American hardwoods. Thoughtfully designed and constructed to last for generations, our beds are finished simply with a hand-rubbed coat of linseed oil to reveal the natural beauty of the wood. When you buy our beds, you can rest assured that you're not bringing questionable wood or dangerous chemicals into your home, because our wood is solid, new, furniture-grade lumber, our glue is low-VOC and our finish is 0% VOC. Many of our customers have chemical sensitivities, and many people purchase our bed frames for use with organic mattresses. MATTRESS SUPPORT
Our slats are untreated kiln-dried poplar hardwoods, 1.125" thick x 5.5" wide
We drill holes in the ends of our slats and include screws so you can screw them down if you wish (helps to alleviate potential noise.)
Slat spacing:
Standard- good for most mattresses: Queen & King with 9 slats: 3.25" apart, Cal King with 10 slats: 2.95" apart
Extra Support: Queen & King with 10 slats: 2.17" apart - extra cost; please ask if you need this.
Kiln-dried poplar center support & walnut leg are included on all King and California King size beds, optional on the Queen.
This bed is meant for just a mattress. Please contact us if we need to modify for box springs or a foundation.

A lower priced support option, which is equally strong, is for you to purchase untreated pine 2 x 6 slats from your local hardware store. They can be purchased and cut to size for $50 - $150. Should you choose to get them locally, we will tell you exactly what you need to get when you place your order. *If you are getting your own slats, we will assume you want it set up for the standard amount of slats (9 for Q + K, 10 for CK) unless you tell us otherwise.*

ASSEMBLY
Our handmade hardwood beds are designed for easy home assembly. You will assemble the head and footboard with a bit of glue, some dominoes, screws and a screwdriver, all of which are provided along with well-written instructions. Don't let that scare you, if you want to see instructions before you order, just ask. Once you have the legs attached to the head and foot rails, the bed is easily put together (and taken apart, should you move) with interlocking metal bed hardware. The slats are placed across the bed to create your platform, with a center support beam and leg running from head to foot on the King and California King.

SHIPPING
Packing and shipping are included in this price. We will ship your bed in one of the following ways: 1. One or more very well packed oversize cardboard boxes via FedEx Ground with appointment delivery, 2. In a large crate via curbside residential FedEx Freight with liftgate + appointment, OR 3. To-the-door delivery by courier (with white glove delivery and set-up available at an additional cost.) Feel free to ask which shipping method we will use before you purchase - we need to know your shipping zip code, the bed size and if you are getting our slats. We will communicate with you via Etsy before we ship to be sure you know how and when to expect it.
