Wooden Tongue Drums are an ancient and somewhat of a crude percussion instrument. They are difficult to tune and the harmonic tones produced are complicated. The 'Little Red' tongue drum is a LOW COST and great sounding way to get started. Much more expensive tongue drums made using exotic woods (ebony, paduch, teak, etc.) produce higher quality tone and resonance, and can be more precisely tuned.
Each key of the 'Little Red' tongue drum has a specific ‘sweet spot’ when struck, that produces the purest tone (usually somewhere in the middle). It is *tuned approximately, using an electronic digital tuner and by ear. Actual tuning can vary from drum-to-drum (Not orchestral quality tuning). Includes a 5-note/pitch scale, beginning with A Major (aprox 441 Hz) - B - C# - D - E (659 Hz), allowing you to play many simple melodies and harmonic note combinations. The longer tongues produce deeper tones A, C# and E, a full octave lower for harmonizing.
You do not need to be a musician to have hours of fun and enjoyment - on your own, with a percussion group or as an accompaniment to other musical instruments. Cabinet size: 18"L x 9-1/2"W x 7-1/2"H with four - 1/4" rubber feet. Includes 2 drum sticks/mallets.
*NOTE: Tuning is not chromatically precise. Tones and resonance can be affected by temperature, humidity or surface the drum is played on.
