So eye catching and simply elegant! I absolutely love Scottish banded agates! This variety is known as bullseye. They exhibit various shades of brown with a central white band. In most indoor lighting they appear dark and in the sunlight the transparency appears. Largest center bead measures 19.04mm wide. The ones on either side are approximately 15.65mm wide. They taper down to 12.60mm at the back. Separated by 14k gold beads with an approximate width of 8 mm.
They were carefully tested before being restrung to assure the golds purity. Including the clasp necklace measures 17 1/2 inches long when laid down flat. Due to the size of beads it wears more like a 16 1/2 inch necklace. It's combined total weight is 94 grams. Dating from the Victorian / Edwardian era. These beads were generally worn as mourning jewelry.
Necklace is in well cared for condition. Some beads do show internal inclusion and surface hairlines. A few have pitting surface nicks. All common and expected with ones of such antiquity. Light dimples and wear to gold beads. Nothing that deters from this beauty! Not noticed when worn but noted for accuracy. Clasp is 12K gold filled and in good working order.
