Art print - "We hear it's still cold in Ullswater" - open water swim in Cumbria, Lake District. Wild swim gift for friend. Calming, mindful.

A swim with friends from Glencoyne Bay inspired this drawing. The scene is Ullswater in the Lake District, Cumbria, and a small print makes a lovely gift for that wild swimming friend - in the distance in the print are two little swimmers together. As a piece of large wall art - chose your size - the drawing has a lovely calming, mindful and serene feeling to it (despite the cold water!) and would be a stunning piece of large wall art for your living room.

This is an unframed print of one of my digital drawings. All prints are archival quality pigment inks and paper. The smallest print will arrive flat, wrapped in cellophane with a board behind, and would make an excellent gift, the larger sizes will arrive rolled in a sturdy tube. Printed and signed by me.

Almost all of my digital drawings are about a particular swim on a particular day, so they all have stories behind them. This is the third of my drawings abut the relative coldness of Ullswater, in the Lake District (or so it seems to me), compared to the other lakes nearby. This is the story that went with this drawing:

"We hear it's still cold(er) in Ullswater"

We got to Ullswater on Saturday morning, in the wind and rain. Rosie and Francine were already swimming, right out across Glencoyne bay, nearly invisible to the naked eye if they hadn’t had tow-floats as well. They were not, however, invisible to the naked ear, swimming as they were at a steady rate of about 100 words a minute. As they came back they passed by the spot where Glencoyne Beck lets into the lake, its cool waters running straight down from the fells, and though it may be June now we could hear quite clearly: it’s still quite cold in Ullswater.
