2018 Folklore and Fairytales Day 28: Beach Walker
The Beach Walker is the prompt on the list that probably has the most untranslatable name. In Swedish, it’s called strandvaskare, which literally translates to “what is washed up at the shore”. As the name suggests, it’s a person, most often a sailor, that has been lost at sea and whose spirit is now roaming the shores. Never given the privilege of a Christian burial, they are never accepted into heaven and they suffer for an eternity because of it. On stormy nights, you can hear them cry among the waves.
