Hello and Welcome to My Shop



My name is Mehmet Başpinar. My father and I have been in the business of repairing antique rugs for over 20 years now. I would like to give thanks to my father for teaching me this business, and now I would like to share my knowledge with the Etsy family.



I started in this business by learning how to identify which rugs come from which Turkish cities, and then step by step, I learned how to wash and repair holes and tears in the rugs. I also have knowledge about each of the rug's colors, patterns, and wool quality.



I collect my vintage rugs from all over Anatolia. They come from many cultures, and they are very old.

Most of the vintage rugs that I have collected have long pile, because in the past they didn't have a way to crop it to be short pile. Patterns on the vintage rugs aren't visible when they are long pile, but you can crop them to make them thin pile with a special, modern cropping machine. This gave me the idea that I could design and repair vintage rugs according to modern style with a cropping machine.



This is the process that I use:

Step 1: I crop the long and dirty pile of the antique rugs with a cropping machine, which makes the pile short and clean. This process makes the patterns, designs, and motifs of the vintage rugs become more visible, and also makes the colors become brighter.



Step 2: I then wash the newly brightened rug with natural, organic, herbal shampoo and hot water, paying close attention to the knots. This process maintains the rug’s vintage color.

My repairing process makes the rugs stronger, healthier, and makes them last longer.

After the repairing process is complete, the refurbished vintage rug is available for use in your own home.

The rugs belong to an ancient time, but after I help to liven the antique design, they can belong to the present.
