When I started doodling during the sermons and adding visual elements my comprehension and recall increased dramatically. I started getting a lot more out of the sermons. I actually began looking forward to the weekly sermons. I realized I was not the only person out there who wanted more, so I wrote Sermon Sketchnotes. Sermon Sketchnotes is a handbook that shows you the 8 elements or tools you need to use to create sermon sketchnotes. By using bullet points, numbers, bubbles, bold lettering, color, separators and dividers we can organize the sermon into a easy to follow visual flow. We can then add little icons to help us remember key points. The book is 78 pages with exercises and room for you to develop your own bible icons in the back. The book is spiral bounds so it opens flat and is printed on card stock so it can handle your permanent black pen (not Sharpie markers) and highlighters. There are several other great books on visual note-taking, but this book focuses on the biblical aspect of sermon notes and sketch-noting during your quiet time.
