Tahkli style spindles with brass shafts, and whorls made from British (pre-decimal) coinage.

Tahkli spindles are traditionally used to spin fine yarn from cotton, but are also suitable for use with other short staple fine fibres.

The coins that I use to make these spindles are specifically chosen for their size and weight and wherever possible I use coins that are in very good condition. The options available at the moment are "Penny", "Two Penny", "Florin", and "Half Crown". The Florin and Half Crown coins that I have were in general circulation and so may show some wear. The Penny coins that I'm using at the moment were never in circulation and so are almost perfect.

The Penny coins are all of the Queen Elizabeth II variety. The Florins and Half Crowns may be either Queen Elizabeth II or King George VI and selected randomly, unless you have a specific preference, in which case just let me know which you'd prefer and I'll do my best to accommodate.

The coins are brazed (with silver solder) to 20cm (8") long, 2.5mm (3/32") diameter, brass shafts and the shafts can have optional small hooks forged in to the flicking tip, if required.

These spindles are available individually or in sets, and are currently "made to order".
