This Mughal Battle Scene painting, wall tapestry, wall hanging by the Old Silk Route is a watercolor painting on silk which we mounted on a matching block print silk sari and backed with cotton curtain fabric to give it support and to provide a sleeve so that the tapestry can be easily hung with the Old Silk Route finials or a curtain In total, three pieces: the painting itself, the sari border, and the curtain backing fabric. Also included are the two pair of natural brown wood finials and a gold cord, so it ready to hang. All you need is a nail.

A write up on Royal Indian Tapestries by the Old Silk Route will accompany this tapestry. It truly is one of a kind and was created while living in Delhi. The inspiration for mounting Indian silk paintings onto silk saris came from observing the Tibetan thangka paintings which were originally mounted onto silk brocade so that they could be rolled up and carried from village to village to spread Buddhism.

To combine the colors in each painting with the right sari required a huge collection of saris to get it right. Furthermore, artists do not always draw straight lines which was a challenge when mounting the painting onto the sari. However, the results were well worth the effort.

The advantage of this tapestry is that it not only avoids the high cost of framing but also the non forgiving glare of glass. And it is easy to ship and to store and not have to worry about the glass or frame getting damaged.

For shipping, it will be rolled onto a fabric tube and inserted into a golf club box for extra protection and to provide easy storage for when it is not being displayed. Free Shipping only applies to the lower 48 States of the United States.
