Civil War Era Lined Ladies Corset
This is a custom made corset - made to your exact measurements.
This corset is made of two layers of heavy, pre-washed cotton fabric. The seams in the outer layer have been felled for increased strength. Hook and eye tape is used as the front closure. This method of closing the corset is equal in strength to busk, but allows more flexibility and provides a more economical product. Hooks also make it easy to put on. You won't need to unlace it every time you wear it - you can simply use the hooks. It laces up the back using hand-set metal grommets. The two ties meet at the waist. It has 6 flexible metal bones in the front and sides and 4 flat metal bones supporting the grommets. The boning is sewn into the corset between the layers of fabric. The materials I use provide enough strength to assure the proper shape and support while still allowing some degree of mobility.
My corsets will come to about the nipple line at the top and just over the top of the hip bones at the bottom. They will lift the bust line up a bit more than a bra will and give plenty of support. They are very typically of the corsets worn in the 1860's.
If you are shorter or taller than "average" or if you have issues with off the rack clothing I offer various lengths. To choose a length you will need to measure your torso. A yardstick makes that easier. Place the one end as high as comfortably possible into your armpit. Measure straight down your side to the very top of your hipbone. Make sure you do not bend or twist. The standard length corset will fit if you measure 12". If you need a shorter corset I can accommodate that. The price is the same as the standard length so order the standard and let me know you need it an inch shorter when you send your other measurements. If you are ordering a longer or shorter length please send your height as well. It's helpful to verify your choice.
To summarize the torso lengths:
Standard: 12"
1 inch longer: 13"
2 inches longer: 14"
EXTRA BONING
If your bra cup size is larger than a "D", I recommend extra boning. I also recommend extra boning if the waist measurement exceeds 44 inches. If you wish to have extra boning, please purchase them through the listing for extra boning for a working corset.
ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS
*Please provide your waist, bust, and hip measurements in inches. You can either do this during the check out process or in a conversation. Either way is fine - just so I have them.
The bust measurement, taken at the fullest part, can be taken while wearing a bra.
The waist measurement should be taken at your natural waist line - about 2" above your belly button.
The hip measurement should be taken at about crotch level.
*Do not send only your bra size, as these measurements can vary with manufacturers and may result in an improper fit.
*Also feel free to include any additional information that you feel may be helpful.
