📝 How we Smudge

🔸Set an intention before you begin to smudge.

🔸 Give thanks to the Great Spirit, God, Buddha, Alah, Krisnia, or whoever's your higher power is.

🔸 Light the smudge stick or bundle and let it smolder. With sage it doesn’t take much to get it lit, and Palo Santo takes a bit to get it going.

🔸Hold the Smudge over a bowl, container, or abalone shell to keep embers from dropping. Waving your hand or a feather to fan the smoke will work to move the smoke around and give it a bit of oxygen to smolder.

🔸When you start to smudge a room Start at the Door, you can choose to go clockwise to move the energy or go counter clockwise to leave the energy. As you move around the room or person keep your intention in mind.

👋 Some say not to blow on the smudge stick as you can blow negative energy into the object your trying to rid of negative energy. You should use your hand or a feather instead.

🔥 Although this can seem like a witchy superstition, there is a grain of truth. Blowing on it could cause cause ash and embers to fly on where your cleansing. You wouldn’t want to put glowing embers on anything and cause it to burn, right?

🐚 Abalone shell is found in many places around the world and is also 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, where during our backpacking adventures we found it abundantly in rock pools off the coast of the Tasman Sea where it likes the cool waters..

✨ Abalone (now farmed like oysters) are sea creatures with a shell one one side and suck to rocks, which is why it’s got a natural bowl shape. The iridescent sea-like colors are from microscopic platelets or layers of a substance called Nacre which reflects light and 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗷𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿-𝗼𝗳-𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹.

🌎 Ethically sourced from suppliers who sustainably manage it’s harvest. Only the tops of the Sage plant are picked leaving the stalks which encourage branching and growth.

Our Palo Santo partner plants 1000’s of trees each year and ensure generations from now will still benefit. The method of collection respects the sacredness of the wood and the tree.

It must be noted that the aromatic wood cannot be harvested from living trees, only from trees that die or fall over from natural causes like old age or being blown over in a storm. The wood must age forest floor for 4-10 years as the oils cure
