Do you suck at piano? Is there someone you know who just isn’t as good as they say they are? Do you wish that there was an instructional piano book for adults that pulled no punches, told it like it is, and wasn’t afraid to put you in your place?
This, my piano flunkies, is your book. For all of you people who used to take piano lessons and are thinking of “getting back into it”, You Suck at Piano is your jam. For those of you who wish you could crank out a simple tune… You Suck at Piano will get you there.
You Suck at Piano - a book for beginning pianists, or those who studied when they were young but quit because they weren’t smart enough to see the value in practicing. The book consists of 50 simple piano arrangements and teaches the fundamentals of piano playing and music theory. Also included are cocktail recipes (to drown your frustrations), comic strips about how composers lived (and died), and enough insults to make Solomon blush.
Sadsap Music was started in 2017 by Dr. Joel Pierson, after realizing that his girlfriend was really, really bad at the piano. But at least she knew it, right? Her crapulent pianism was oddly inspiring, so Joel began the journey of being the first person in history (we're willing to bet!) to write a piano method book full of comic strips, cocktail recipes, and relentless insults aimed at the reader. Joel launched You Suck at Piano on Kickstarter in the fall of 2017, and raised over $80,000 to get the book printed and shipped. Ayy, the shipping… what a nightmare.
In 2018 the follow up book You Suck at Piano 2: You Still Suck was released, along with a book of original compositions titled 20 Piano Pieces for People with Emotional Problems. In 2019, Joel began mocking other instruments as well, releasing You Suck at Guitar. The most recent addition to the collection is The Nutsmacker - a book of piano (or guitar) pieces set side-by-side with comics about an unlikely superhero who fights crime with a pantyhose full of walnuts. Sadsap Music has a number of ridiculous books coming down the pipeline, so stay tuned… if you can handle it!
