Sweet antique Victorian garnet pieces such as this one are referred to as Bohemian, referring to the nation from which the garnets were mined. This lovely, delicate looking but sturdy, hinged garnet bangle is just lovely. Four rows of intensely glittering natural garnets make up this Victorian-era bracelet. Garnets were cherished during the 19th century for their rumored ability to promote victory and power for the wearer—perhaps due to their rich, serious color. And the bohemian cut was especially popular, the multiple facets creating the glinting effect you see in this piece. The designer expertly arranged graduating sizes of stones, from 2mm stones at the back to 4mm stones at the front. The result is a seamless graduation, culminating in a slight pendant at the front.
Antique Victorian Bohemian garnet bracelet, hinged bangle...Four rows pavé set graduated rose cut garnets. Approx 6-1/2” interior circumference, 5/8” at widest point in front. Gilt metal, traditionally 14K gold plated sterling silver. Approx 31 grams total weight.
Condition: Excellent, there are no garnets missing, there are some stones that look like replacements but they have a bohemian cut so it is noticeable only on close inspection.. The gilt finish is bright and golden with little wear and there are no dents or irregularities to the shape of the bracelet or signs of repair.
