The scene was the Arena downtown on lower Broadway shortly after the big tornado ripped through. The Arena was not yet two years old at the time, still quite a curiosity. The person was Phillip, a friend from Ohio, who appeared to have captured it all.
I printed each of these postcards personally in my darkroom in 1998. I shot the original negative on Kodak Tri-X film. Camera used: Fuji GA645W. I developed the film as well as making the prints. Printed on Ilford Glossy Multigrade IV RC Portfolio postcards. No digital filters used!
This is one of many that the Nashville Scene, a local arts and entertainment weekly newspaper, published in the regular "Shots" feature. Publish date: May 21, 1998.
My portfolio of fine black & white film photography reveals a Nashville that I grew up with and is quickly fading away. The point of view is that of a street photographer searching for the silver lining, or at least a good shot worth $50 to the Nashville Scene.
Card Size: 3 7/8 x 5 7/8. White borders reduce image size as shown.
Condition is excellent, considering the fact these postcards were printed over 20 years ago.
I will sign any postcard if requested at no additional charge.
