Handmade blue and white ceramic bird and heart ornament with driftwood collected from my local beach. Lovely as a summery gift or as a little symbol of love, hope and peace to hang on your wall or give to someone special.

The blue and white centre piece of each Shoreline Ceramics hanging decoration is made from terracotta clay which, once cut and modelled into shape, is carefully smoothed to soften and round the edges as if it had been worn down by the action of the sea. After being left to dry thoroughly, they are bisque fired and glazed with a traditional majolica-style Tin white glaze and hand painted with blue Cobalt oxide. They then head back to the kiln for a second firing.

The wall pieces are then assembled using wire and a combination of beads and buttons (some of which are recycled and some I make myself by hand). The sometimes incorporate rusty remnants and / or driftwood gathered from the shoreline. The simple wire loop makes them incredibly easy to hang on any nail or hook.

Every Shoreline Ceramics item is made to be unique and is carefully hand crafted. Glaze density, depth of colour and design will vary and of course, no two pieces of driftwood will ever be the same! Personally, I love the fact that each piece is so individual, but please do just bear this in mind when making your purchase.

... and just in case you decided to hang this piece a room with a damp atmosphere e.g. a bathroom, please be aware that there is a possibility that the metallic components will develop an attractive rusty patina over time.
