This new material is a hydrophane opal that can absorb and release water making it less inclined to craze which happens to many opals as they loose their water content

2 = what to do if opal absorbs water ?

Opals should not be worn in the shower because they have pores and can absorb water. When exposed to water, opals can lose their vibrant color and become pale or fireless. Opals require special care. if opal absorb water then to restore them, wrap the gemstone in a paper packet and make sure that air cannot get in the packet, and place them in sunlight or below the yellow lamp light one feet distance for a day. After 24 hours the packet will be hot keep the packet in polybag and let the packet stay closed for 12 to 13 hours to return to normal temperature. Do not open the paper immediately, as rapid temperature changes can cause the opals to crack or break, also keep the ethiopian opals away from oil also because there is no solution to restore opals after contacting oil.
