Seller's description

This antique cake plate, or serving plate, would make any celebration more special!

This plate was made by Carlsbad, Austria. The marks on the underside determined it was imported by the Alexander Klingenburg company in the 1890s.

The plate was made in the mold to have a square shape with a scalloped rim and embossed handles on each end. The rim of the plate is raised slightly to give the center of the plate a circle.

The plate was coated in white glaze. Around the edge of the plate a pattern of thin red branches, flowers and leaves was applied. Inside the flower petals a blue glaze was hand painted. Inside the leaves a green glaze was hand painted. A small bouquet of the same flowers and leaves was hand painted in the center of the plate. Around the rim a gold line was applied. The gold was hand painted to also embellish the raised details of the handles.

On the underside of the plate is the Carlsbad Austria backstamp that also has the AK monogram of the importing company, Alexander Klingenburg.

This plate measures 9 1/2" across, 10 1/4" from handle to handle and stands 1 1/4" high.

This plate is in great antique condition. There are no chips or cracks. There is no crazing or large utensil marks. There is no loss to the glazes or hand painted details. There is some rubbing to the gold trim on the rim from use. There is some dark marks on the glaze but it is on the back of the plate.

This is a beautiful serving plate with such elegant details. It would be so lovely used for display and taken down and used for those special gatherings!
