Great gift for someone interested in Asian arts, bamboo, kimonos, and quilt art.

Bamboo is often seen as the Chinese symbol for longevity because of its durability, strength, flexibility and resilience. It strives in the harshest of elements, still sitting tall, and staying green year-round. Its flexibility and adaptability are a lesson to us all that the secret of a long happy life is to go with the flow. The ancient art of Feng Shui recommends putting bamboo in the front of your home to assure long life for all those who live there.

Inspirations and Influences.
Many of the textile collages I create are inspired by the Asian art displayed in Tokonoma alcoves. Tokonomas were the sacred center of a traditional Japanese home, and reserved for treasured items like scrolls or calligraphy, beautiful kimonos, ikebana flower arrangements, miniature bonsai trees, and fine ceramics for tea ceremonies. The items displayed were changed for special occasions, according to the season, or to create different settings and atmospheres.
